Portable home charger for your electric car
With a portable EV charger you can charge your electric car at home, on the road or on holiday without relying on a fixed charging station. Bar2Charge offers 3.7 kW, 7.4 kW, 11 kW and 22 kW portable chargers for different sockets and CEE connections.
Choose a version that matches your electrical connection, your car's maximum AC charging power and the desired charging speed. Many models offer adjustable current, delayed charging, a display and optional app control.
Charging from a standard socket – 3.7 kW chargers
A 3.7 kW portable charger connects to a standard grounded 230V socket. On many models the charging current can be adjusted, for example from 6 to 16 amps. This version is suitable for daily top-ups, plug-in hybrids and situations where no CEE connection is available.
The actual charging power depends on the selected current, the electrical installation and the car's maximum charging power. At 10 amps the charging power is about 2.3 kW and at 16 amps up to about 3.7 kW.
Charging via a blue CEE plug – 7.4 kW chargers
A 7.4 kW portable charger normally uses a blue 230V 32A CEE connection. This allows an electric car to charge faster on a single phase than from a normal household socket.
For the full 7.4 kW, the CEE connection, cabling, protective devices and the car's onboard charger must all support 32 amps on one phase.
Charging via a red CEE plug – 11 kW chargers
An 11 kW portable charger normally connects to a red three-phase 16A CEE outlet. This is a practical choice for many fully electric cars because many models support up to 11 kW AC charging.
Always check that your car and electrical installation support three-phase charging. The car ultimately determines how much charging power is actually accepted.
Charging via a red CEE plug – 22 kW chargers
For portable charging at up to 22 kW, a red three-phase 32A CEE connection is normally required. The connection, cabling and protection must all be suitable for this higher power.
Not every electric car can accept 22 kW AC. If the onboard charger supports a maximum of 11 kW, a 22 kW charger will still charge the car at no more than 11 kW.
Charging with a CEE adapter
Depending on the model, a portable CEE charger can be used on another connection with a suitable adapter. On compatible versions, for example, an adapter can be used to charge from a regular 230V socket.
An adapter does not increase the available charging power. The charging current must always be limited to what the socket, adapter and electrical installation can safely supply.
Portable charger for Type 1 cars
Does your electric car or plug-in hybrid have a Type 1 connection? Suitable charging options are still available. Depending on the vehicle, a portable Type 1 charger or a compatible adapter can be used.
For specific models we can also supply portable Type 1 chargers by special order. If in doubt, use our Auto Guide to check which connection and charging power suit your car.
Portable charger with app control
Some smart portable chargers can be controlled via an app. Depending on the model, Smart Life or Tuya may be used. The product page always states which app belongs to the charger.
Depending on the model, the app can show charging status, adjust charging current, set a timer or monitor charging sessions.
Which portable home charger do you need?
The right portable charger depends on the available connection and your car's maximum AC charging power. A standard socket is suitable for slower charging, while a blue or red CEE connection can provide higher and more stable charging power.
Also check whether your home has a single-phase or three-phase connection and how many amps are available. If in doubt, have the electrical installation checked by a qualified installer.

Safe use of a portable EV charger
Fully unwind the charging cable during use, keep plugs and connectors clean and do not use damaged cables, plugs or sockets. Do not place the charging unit in an enclosed space where heat cannot escape properly.
Stop charging if you notice a burning smell, discoloration, deformation, crackling noise or excessive heat at the plug or connection.
